All our custom designed hidden door products can be used in place of an existing door or included as a special feature in new construction or remodeling projects. When closed, our hidden door bookcases and cabinets are flush with the wall and completely conceal the doorway.

Our Hidden Doors by Design products are built by master craftsmen using hand selected, premium quality, solid core wood veneers. The front, sides, back, cabinet box and shelves are all constructed of the same wood species. Our shelves are adjustable and shelf edge styles are trimmed with solid wood nosings. All our hidden door units are shipped unfinished, sanded and ready for painting or staining to match your woodwork and cabinetry. We want your hidden door to blend with your existing cabinetry so that it truly will be “hidden.”

All our full-size hidden door products feature our concealed metal reinforcement system for added strength and rigidity, so there’s no need for hinges, tracks or rollers. Our reinforcement system is designed to reduce the possibility of twisting or sagging even when a bookcase is filled with 200 pounds of books — the maximum recommended weight. Our hidden door bookcases and cabinets open and close smoothly with just the touch of a finger even when fully loaded.

We offer cherry, alder, knotty alder, maple, red oak, hickory, walnut and African mahogany in premium quality, solid core wood veneers. Other woods may be available on request. We may use poplar, soft maple and MDF for our paint grade products.

We build both in-swing and out-swing hidden door units. They can open on the left or right. In-swing hidden doors may have mitered casing at the top or a header trimmed with one or two parting stops. Rosettes are optional. The maximum swing arc for our 90 o IN-SWING DOOR is approximately 120 degrees. Out-swing hidden doors have one leg of the casing traveling with the door, so a butt joint is required at the header. The maximum swing arc for our 90 o OUT-SWING DOOR is approximately 90 degrees.

Standard Locks: Our standard closure is a ball catch latch similar to what you’d find on double doors or heavy cabinet doors. Magnetic Locks: If you’d like added security, you’ll love our commercial grade magnetic locking system. This popular, optional locking system comes with two car-key sized remotes and an ‘exit button’ for the back side of the door. Battery back-ups are also available. If you select this option, you will need to have an electrical outlet installed on the wall behind the door within 3 feet of the top of the latch side of the hidden door. Our magnetic locking system is perfect for panic rooms, safes, guns, jewelry, wine collections — or anything you’d like to keep out of sight.

Our interactive Design Center allows you to customize your Hidden Door by Design product with your choice of wood and optional trim selections including shelf edge details, drawer fronts, door panels, casing, headers and parting stops, and rosettes.

Shelves: Our full-size hidden door bookcases include five adjustable shelves. Additional shelves may be ordered. Hidden doors with cabinet doors and drawers may have a combination of fixed and adjustable shelves depending on the style you select.

Standard 3/4” thick shelves are constructed from the same wood species as the rest of the unit. Our standard shelf edge trim is 1 1/4″ × 3/4" solid wood nosing with eased edges. We have a selection of additional shelf edge trims that are shown in the Design section.

Premium 1 1/2” thick shelves are available at a slightly higher cost. They are constructed of the same wood product as the rest of the unit with solid wood nosings in a selection of edge trim styles.

Drawer Fronts and Door Panels: We have a nice selection of drawer panels and cabinet doors. If you prefer to match your existing cabinets, you may add the drawer fronts and cabinet doors after you receive your hidden door product.

Casings: We offer two styles of casings. Our standard casing is solid wood 3 1/2″ × 3/4" wide with eased edges. Our 3 1/2″ × 3/4" custom casing has a gently curved profile and is available for an additional price.

Headers: Headers are available in 3 1/2" or 5" heights and may be trimmed with your choice of one or two parting stops. Rosettes are optional and may be used in lieu of parting stops. Other trim variations are available as custom orders. Please visit our Design Center to see all our products and trim selections.

Door Jamb: The door jamb is included with all hidden door products. It will be provided in the same wood as your hidden door.

We can build custom, fixed bookcases and cabinets to match your custom hidden door bookcase or cabinet. Do you have a library or office where you’d like a series of matching bookcase units with one being a hidden door bookcase? If we build all the units, you can be assured that they will match perfectly so that your hidden door remains “hidden.”

When you order a hidden door bookcase, you will receive the bookcase with adjustable shelves, the internal metal structure that adds strength and rigidity, our specially designed bottom block, a matching door jamb and header, and our standard casing. We will supply enough casing to trim both the inside and outside of the doorway.

The exterior width of our full-size hidden door bookcases and cabinets with our concealed metal reinforcement system is approximately 12". These full size bookshelves and cabinets have approximately 10 1/4” of interior depth to provide you with very useable storage space. Drawers have an approximately interior depth of 8” which gives you a perfect place to store clothing, CDs, DVDs or a variety of other items.

A 96” x 30” x 12” hidden bookcase door with a door jamb and 5 shelves weighs approximately 275 pounds.
